Exenia (Queenie) Thurgood
November 21, 1928 – August 8, 2021
Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.” John 11:25
With great sorrow, Queenie’s family announces her passing after a brief illness.
Queenie was born in Mozart, Saskatchewan. She attended Saskatchewan Normal School in Saskatoon, and was a teacher by profession. The greatest lesson she gave her “four girls” was her strength, having fought through several heart attacks and bouts with cancer in her later years.
She was a loving wife to Jim, who predeceased her, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her greatest love and legacy was her family, with photos of not only her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but also nieces, nephews, and their children prominently displayed throughout her home.
Queenie was predeceased by her parents, John and Katherine Bzdell, sisters Anne, Pearl, Sophie and Helen, and brothers Alec, George, Martin and Conrad.
Queenie leaves behind her daughters Kathy (Doug) Croke and their children, Brenda, Preston (Laura) and Brendan, and grandchildren, Justin and Sean; Jameen; Joy and her children, Mandalyn and Micheal; and Lori (John) Verrall and their children, Benjamin and Hannah; as well as her sisters, Natalie and Vicki, brother, Wally and numerous nieces and nephews.
We will all mourn her death and celebrate her long life.
Queenie’s family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and caregivers at Royal University Hospital, Kensington Gentle Care Home and Saskatoon City Hospital for their care.
The Rite of Committal will take place on September 24th at 2:00 p.m. Please meet at the front gates of Woodlawn cemetery at 1:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating, in Queenie’s name, to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society or Parkinson Canada.
