Jameen’s Letter to Mom
Dear Mom
How do I begin to put into words what your loss means to me? You gave me life and were always there to provide support when I needed it. I wish I could have always been there for you in your times of need. Yours was not an easy life with the struggles you and dad faced when my sisters and I were young, dad’s prolonged illness, your own health problems later in your life and the loss of your brothers and sisters. You faced these challenges with quiet fortitude and never became bitter with what life had thrown at you.
You supported me to make my own choices even when you did not agree with them and I knew I always had a safe haven as long as your were in my world (except for the time when you temporarily disowned me when I ran off to ‘live in sin’ or as baba said ‘went on the honeymoon before the wedding’). If we could choose our mothers then I would always choose you!
One of the greatest sources of joy for you were your grandchildren and I remember how you looked forward to each birth and how happy you were to be reunited with your first granddaughter and to meet your first great grandson. In these last years, visits from your youngest great grandson brought you much happiness. It always amazed me how you remembered birthdays and anniversaries for all, including nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends! You are loved by so many and have always tried to help your family when you could.
I am so glad you were able to visit New Zealand to meet my friends and see what my life is like here. Now I find myself missing our weekly phone calls and wishing I could hug you one last time. So for the final time I will end this as I ended our phone calls:
“Bye Mommy - I love you”

Aunt Queenie, one of the most kind hearted people I've ever known, always welcoming people to her home & ready to offer up a great hot meal (her roast beef & delicious gravy were awesome). She was always on my "need to visit list" whenever I was in Saskatoon. She will be dearly missed & will always be fondly remembered.

To Lori, Joy, Kathy & Jameen - Queenie was an amazingly selfless woman and you were all very lucky to have her for your mom. I have many memories of Queenie. A couple that stand out are when she came for a visit and I had a Labrador puppy. She was babysitting her during the day and after about 3 days mentioned how hungry she was and how much she ate. Curious we asked why she said that and she told us that every time she put food in her bowl she would eat it all so thought she was still hungry and would fill it up again. Of course my puppy ate it all up again. I was too scared to ask how many times a day she kept refilling her bowl. Good thing it was only 3 days. I never heard Queenie ask for a cup of coffee or tea. If you asked her if she would like one she always said “If you’re having one”. She always had a cuppa if you were. So sad you have left us all but know you are at peace and with Jim again. Soar high Queenie. Lynne Madden xxxooo
