Leda Lanski

Obituary of Leda Lanski

Leda was born in Ukraine in 1924, immigrating to Canada in 1927 with her family and settled in the Hafford District.  In 1945, she married the love of her life Walter Lanski.  Together they raised two sons, Garry & Bob in Hafford.  Walter & Leda enjoyed many activities together. Fishing, playing cards, attending church and gardening were their favourites.  One of the most special moments in her life was when they renewed their vows after 60 years of marriage in 2005.  They had a love that was truly forever.  Throughout her many years in Hafford, Leda was active in the community.  One of her most cherished activities was singing in the church choir.  She had a special love for gardening, always proud to show her flowers or size of potatoes to people.  Celebrating holidays and keeping Ukrainian traditions was important to her.  Once you entered the Lanski home, you would be welcomed, and then offered a spot at the table with an abundance of food that was lovingly prepared.  The aroma of fresh baked buns and treats filled the kitchen, and there was always the guarantee of borscht and perogies as these were Leda’s specialty.  She enjoyed spending time visiting with family and friends and passing down traditions to her Granddaughters and Great grandchildren.  Her kindness could be felt in her smile and heard in her laugh.  She was a “Baba” and caregiver to many people, we all feel blessed to have had her in our lives. Through difficult times she remained strong & caring, focused on her faith and accepting life as it came.   Leda is predeceased by her parents Bazyli & Paraska, husband Walter, Sons Garry & Bob, Daughter in Law Elaine, Sisters: Mary, Helen & Phyllis, Brothers Max, John & Bill.  She is remembered by all who loved her & shared in her many years of life.  “Baba” Leda will be forever remembered and cherished by her Granddaughter’s Laura (Stacy) and Cheryl (Nolan) and her great-grandchildren: Jackson, Megan, Lloyd & David, Daughter in law Linda, Sister in law Irene (Alex), many nieces, nephews and extended family.  Donations in memory of Leda can be made to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Hafford, SK.  Prayers will be held Monday, March 11th at 7pm, at Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Hafford, SK.  Followed with the service on Tuesday, March 12th,at 10am at Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Hafford, SK.
