Obituary of Laura Ulsifer

ULSIFER - Laura (Agnes) June 3, 1925 - May 29, 2017 It is with a heavy heart, but also a lifetime of fond memories, that we announce the passing of Laura Ulsifer, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Laura passed away peacefully with family holding her hands, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was blessed with a large family and leaves behind to celebrate her life, her children: Brian, Irene Haubrich, Dale, Joanne (Rick) Kormish, Alan (Karen) and Karen (Dairn) Keller, her grandchildren: Stacey (Marco) Defreitas, Steve, Cindy (Craig) Young, Kaela (Ken) Ettienne, Shane (Angie) Haubrich, Kevin Haubrich, Ian (Stephanie) Kormish, Mark, Adam, Dane, Luke, Dustin and Devin (Jannisse), as well and her many lovely great-grandchildren. Also left to remember Laura, are her brother Daniel Loehr, sister Bernice (Dan) Stuckel, sisters-in-law Angela Knowles and Marlene Ulsifer. Laura was predeceased by: her husband Bill, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage, her beloved daughter-in-law Jeanette, her parents Arnold and Agnes Loehr, brothers Elmer, Irwin, Clarence, Edwin, and sisters Irene, Tilly and Hilda. Laura, an incredibly caring mother, was full of energy and determination. Her work ethic was incomparable and nothing was more enjoyable to her than cooking vast quantities of food at a moment's notice when company dropped in. “Laura’s Kitchen” was always open. Laura loved any occasion that brought her large family together to sing, play cards, and tell stories. She worked for many years with Bill, ending her career with Westfair Foods to enjoy a long retirement. Laura and Bill both loved to fish, and enjoyed many days of their retirement together on peaceful waters. Laura was a devout Catholic who lived by her values. She was active for many years in the Catholic Women’s League at St. Mary’s Parish in Saskatoon. Her claim to fame at St. Mary’s was her regular deliveries of fresh baked cinnamon buns to the Rectory, hence her nickname “The Cinnamon Bun Lady”. Laura was a mentor to everyone around her; always willing to help, readily forgiving, always seeing the good in people. Her sense of humour and ability to laugh at herself, and her caring personality, drew people to her. Laura was one of those rare, special people who made everyone feel better about themselves and helped them see the joy in life. She will be deeply missed, but always remembered in our hearts for her generosity of spirit and absolute love of all those around her. Our family would like to thank the staff at Applewood Manor and Saskatoon Convalescent Home, for their patient, loving care of our Mom (Grandma) in her final years. These people are truly amazing and inspirational. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Laura’s memory be made to the “Namaste Program” at the Saskatoon Convalescent Home.
