I would like to send my deepest sympathy to all the family of Bob Van Impe. I have many fond memories of Bob through many years of softball organizations. I always remember that he would sit on the first bleacher at the softball park and often with his dog by his side. He was a true gentleman, and I will miss our conversations. I would like to express my deepest condolences. Bob will be greatly missed. He was/is a special soul. What I remember best about Bob is his gentle smile. The story I tell many people was the day my daughter met Bob at her swimming lessons when she was 6 ish. Bob and Ena were there watching their grandchildren. I introduced her to Bob Van Impe. He gently smiled and shook her hand. She looked at me as if I had introduced her to a movie star. She recognized the name from the stadium where we played ball. Later she said to me, "You know someone famous?" She has met him several times since and is still in "Awe" and proud to have met him. She always went away feeling special. In Bob's special way with a soft gentle smile is how he has made a huge impact on many people. Thankyou Bob and again my deepest condolences.

Gary.....I was not surprised but definitely saddened to see the news of your dad's passing. He was an absolute gem of a man with such an engaging personality. Our phone calls lasted 15-20 minutes each time I would call and his conversation skills and voice were remarkable for a man his age. Then, I would watch amused as he held court at the left field tables with everyone dropping by for a visit. He loved it and it was fun to watch. He had a great life. You are, I am sure, very proud of all of that. Best wishes. Barry

Hello Gary: I just wanted to pass along our sympathy on the passing of your father. It is never easy to lose a parent because of the large role that they have played in our lives. I saw an article on Pat Burns, former NHL coach who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness. In the article it said the he told his children " Don't be sad that I am leaving, be happy that we got to know each other." From your dad's work in the community and the softball sport, I am certain that there are many, many people locally, nationally and internationally that are happy that they got to know your dad.
Take care

I met Bob through Softball and was impressed with his honesty and integrity. He always was personable and helped me understand that Softball Canada was not about a Province but about developing softball across the country. I was fortunate to be part of 2 World Championships in Saskatoon as an umpite and he always would sit down with me to discuss how I was and how my family was. His smile was forever. I just recently was in Oklahoma and his name came up in conversation with several USA Softball ledge do umpires. He will always be remembered for his great contributions to our sport. Thank you Bob for being a mentor. My condolences go out to the entire family.

So very sorry to hear of Bob's passing, but glad that he had such a wonderful, long, healthy life. I saw him often as one of my dad's "gang of old boys" - they had great times together, golfing, curling, volunteering, and going for their weekly breakfast on Saturdays, at which they had many laughs, bickered a little, and solved many problems . . . in theory. We still appreciate the visits Bob made to see Dad in the hospital; I like to think that they're together again with other friends who have passed on.

My condolences to Bob's family. I had the pleasure of serving Bob and his friends every Saturday morning for breakfast. He had such a good humor and always had a story to tell. Bob always said "you should take the day off and have breakfast with us", I am sorry I never got the chance to do so. He even come in before the others one Saturday and had me play out a prank on them that he planned out.
Saturday mornings will not be the same. Rest in peace Bob.

I extend my deepest sympathy to Bob's family. I sit almost in feelings that are difficult to describe as two weeks ago, this special man came up to shake my hand at the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame upon my induction and thanked me for all I gave to softball and Saskatchewan. Bob was around is a lot during my years with Harmony Centre and certainly was a fixture on the admin side of things dealing with our sport on a provincial, national, and international level. We owe him a great deal. I always found Bob to be so professional. I truly wish I there had been more minutes to speak with him on Nov 3rd. So sorry for your loss.
